Why talk about “breaks without a set time”?

When you add an unpaid break without specifying its time, Combo automatically decides where to place it within the shift.

This helps avoid calculation errors for:

  • Night hours

  • Premium hours (Sundays, public holidays)

  • Actual paid working time

👉 Goal: to ensure calculations accurately reflect real working time, even when the break has no defined schedule.

How does the automatic calculation work?

🧮 Step 1: Calculate the actual working duration

Shift duration − total break duration

Example: Shift 7h → 20 min break → 6h40 worked

🧮 Step 2: Determine the number of segments

Number of breaks + 1

Number of breaks

Number of segments

1 break

2 segments

2 breaks

3 segments

3 breaks

4 segments

🧮 Step 3: Divide the working time by the number of segments

Worked duration ÷ number of segments

Example: 6h40 ÷ 2 = 3h20 per segment

🧮 Step 4: Automatic distribution within the shift

Combo alternates Work → Break → Work, following the break order automatically.

Special case: night hours

Let’s imagine a shift from 7:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. with a 1-hour break.

Combo automatically places the break where it has the least impact on the total number of premium hours.

In this example, it’s placed between 10:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m.

Applied convention:

  • 9:00 p.m. → 2:00 a.m. = +10%

  • 2:00 a.m. → 6:00 a.m. = +30%

Final calculation:

  • Premium hours at +10% = 5h − 1h break = 4h

  • Premium hours at +30% = 1h

This ensures a fair and accurate calculation of night hours.
