How to Enable Minimum Wage (SMIC) Pay for an Employee?

The “Employee at SMIC” option allows the salary to be automatically maintained at the legal minimum wage level, including if there is a legal increase.

How to enable SMIC pay when creating a contract

Use this option if the employee is hired directly at the legal minimum wage.

From the employee’s profile > Contracts tab:

  • Click Actions > Create a new contract

  • Fill in the details in the Contract tab

  • Switch to the Payroll tab

  • Enable the option Employee at SMIC

  • Click Save


How to enable SMIC pay for an existing contract

Use this option if an employee already in place moves to minimum wage pay.

From the employee’s profile > Contracts tab:

  • Click Actions > Declare a change

  • Select Create an amendment (Permanent tab)

  • Enter the effective date

  • Enter the weekly working time (required to calculate SMIC)

  • Enable the option Employee at SMIC

  • Click Save

💡 When the “Employee at SMIC” option is enabled:

  • The monthly gross salary and hourly rate are automatically updated each time the legal SMIC increases.

  • This option does not apply to contractual minimum wages under your collective agreement (convention collective). If in doubt, contact our team.
