Understanding work time modulation

Learn how work time modulation enables you to adjust employee schedules based on activity levels while complying with legal requirements.

Updated yesterday

Work time modulation is available on the People plan.

Work time modulation allows you to adapt the working hours of your employees to the needs of your business. This approach is governed by a formal agreement (branch, convention, or company-level agreement).

This agreement specifies:

  • The reference period, which can range from 4 weeks to 3 years on Combo.

  • The upper and lower limits within which working hours can fluctuate.

  • The total number of hours to be completed over the period (e.g., 1,607 hours for a 35-hour/week contract over a year).

How It Works

During the reference period, employees may work more or fewer than 35 hours per week, depending on fluctuations in business activity. The goal is to achieve the total number of hours required by the end of the period. ⏰

At the end of the reference period:

  • If an employee has worked more hours than planned, the surplus is treated as overtime or regular hours based on the agreement's terms.

Example :

An employee completes 1,630 actual working hours instead of the 1,607 hours initially planned.

  • 23 overtime hours will be recorded and compensated according to the provisions of the collective agreement.
